Former and current travel nurse looking for advice… I was at the same hospital in Oregon for 15 years and worked in so many different departments trying to find a good fit. I tried med-surg, house float, stepdown, ED, ortho, and finally, prep/recovery. Pre-op/phase 2 recovery was by far my favorite and where I want to stay. But, I was bored with where I lived and wanted to try moving to a 4-season climate to feed my need for snow before I’m too old. (I’m in my 50’s) My specialty is not offered as a traveling nurse so I had to go back to med-surg. I took a local travel day shift position hired directly by a hospital but treated just like a regular traveler. This hospital knew I had not worked med-surg for >2 years. Every shift, I’m screaming inside! I’m struggling being back in the med-surg travel world. (Meditech, ancient, outdated equipment, one day orientation,NY State) Every day feels like a slap in the face and I cannot imagine this to be sustainable for me. I feel so frustrated, disappointed, and lost! I’m on a quest for a great place to live so I can take a permanent job in my specialty, again. I’m asking for your advice. My vision: 4 seasons with easy access to cross country skiing, great hiking/biking, an affordable community with decent shopping, Contra dancing, and an awesome hospital with Epic charting. Does this place exist ? TYIA! If there is a better place to post this question I would love to know.
